This Series, God of Second Chances, looks at stories in the Bible in which God gives people second chances, and it invites us to reflect on God's mercy, patience, and loving character.
We are not bound to the decisions we make out of fear. God restores us no matter what we have done. We must be willing to turn back and trust Him.
Jesus's willingness to restore Peter speaks to God's long-suffering nature. We sometimes must be reminded that God never stops loving us, even when we fail to love Him fully. We forget that we aren't capable of loving as God does, and as a result, we live as our version of God's love and God's actual love are the same thing. Peter's story reminds us that God's love for us is limitless, without end. He can and will restore all who trust that love to be enough.
