This six-week series, Fundamentals: The Basics of the Bible, outlines the basics of Christian theology, helping congregation members understand the main points of salvation history as shown in the Bible. From the fall of humankind to now, God had a design to bring humanity back to himself so we might know him for eternity.
Philippians 2:6–8 eloquently tells us that God is both fully divine and fully human. This is important for at least two reasons. First, in his divinity, Christ revealed the nature of God to us in a fullness that we had not seen or known previously. He showed us God’s will for humanity, the reality of the kingdom of heaven, and the extent of God’s love for us. Second, in his humanity, Christ displayed for us the perfect, sinless life. No other person has fulfilled the Law in their actions. In so doing, he took on himself our burdens and punishment, offering us salvation by his righteousness—a salvation and righteousness we could not attain for ourselves.
