This six-week series, Fundamentals: The Basics of the Bible, outlines the basics of Christian theology, helping congregation members understand the main points of salvation history as shown in the Bible. From the fall of humankind to now, God had a design to bring humanity back to himself so we might know him for eternity.
The work of the church should be the completion of Christ’s work, by the grace and aid of the Holy Spirit: delivering the news of salvation to all who need it (everyone). This role has not yet ceased and will not cease until Christ’s return. How we carry it out in our daily lives is flexible, so long as we continue to follow the teaching passed on to us through Christ, his disciples, and the Holy Spirit. We see in Ephesians 4 that there are multiple functions within the body of Christ. God doesn’t call all of us to exactly the same role in carrying out Christ’s mission.
We find ourselves at the end of salvation history. From the first breath of Adam to this very moment, every stage of human history has led to our intersection with the presence of God. Now it’s up to us to ensure that same intersection occurs for all those we encounter. We may fail to read our Bibles regularly, forget to pray, or miss a Sunday or two of church, but let’s do all we can to ensure that the gospel makes its way into the hearts of those we meet. That’s how salvation history will continue to be lived out all around us.
