This three-week series, Forgiven: Fully, Freely, Forever, examines forgiveness. Because of Christ’s atoning sacrifice, we have forgiveness of sin and relationship with God. This forgiveness is fully given to all who come to Christ. Because it’s given freely in Christ, Christians can freely forgive others. Also, forgiveness in Christ is not temporary, but forever.
Forgiveness is not a popular value in our culture. Humans struggle to admit to wrongdoing in order to receive forgiveness, or to extend forgiveness to someone who hurt them. In the atonement of Christ, forgiveness is provided fully for all who have sinned. We have comfort of knowing we are fully forgiven in Christ's sacrifice.
